May 2023

We did it— we opened again! The beams are in, the brick is up, the doors open & close just like doors should. Although the brick is a little funky, it reflects the 130 years this building has been standing and the changes that have been made over time. We look forward to welcoming you back inside the shop.

The construction is moving along and there’s been some big progress. The steel beams have been carefully installed, welded, and they’re now busy doing what steel beams do. This photo shows the stucco being removed, exposing brick of various ages. The two guys who are doing almost all the work (David, on the lift, and Maurice, chatting with my husband) are skilled, patient, and thorough. We didn’t know what we’d find when the stucco came down and there have been a bunch of surprises! It seems we are still on track to reopen in May and I’m happily working on commissions in the back of the shop until that happens. I’ve been posting more regularly on Instagram with construction updates so follow me over there to share the adventure.

March 2023

Oh boy! What the Hell is going on here? Well, in September 2022, we were going to do a simple little swap of our ugly 1960’s metal doors with some really pretty new wood doors. And then… Did I mention the building was built in 1894? So there have been some ,,,, uhhhhh…issues. To start, there’s a structural beam that supports our entire brick façade, and it’s half eaten by termites, probably a long time ago but still, half eaten. There have been many smart minds who have determined that the best plan forward is to replace that tasty wood beam with steel. That has just happened in this photo. But then there is so much more. We’re temporarily closed but I am working in the back and glad to meet with you— if only to have some other human sounds in my little cave— if you want to give me a call or shoot me a text at (732) 762-0060. HOPING to be open again in May 2023???
