This most recent commission is an example of what I really enjoy about making custom stained glass-- it is functional, beautiful, and designed for this exact space and homeowner.  Having just moved into a new home, they wanted to personalize their entryway while incorporating the house number into the design. With the 3 windows, they wanted them to look similar but not the same.  We decided to put the house number in the center window for visibility and developed a simple design that works for all the window with the colored glass in different places in each.  To make the house number readable, I painted it with glass paint that I fired in my kiln before soldering the pieces together.  The clear glass in the center of the windows gives them a place to peak outside without sacrificing privacy.  I have pictures of some other transoms I have designed and created on my Flickr.  If you have a home with a transom above the front door or a window nearby, a custom stained glass piece is a terrific way to give your home improved functionality and instant personality.
