About 50 percent of my business is residential commissions. Frequently, in towns where the houses are close to each other, people commission a stained glass window so they aren't looking directly at their neighbors. Other times they have a window that overlooks a busy street and they feel exposed. In every case, they want something beautiful to look at, that lets light in, and captures their color and design preferences. I love to help people figure out what they like and then to create it for them. For this commission, they wanted something very simple and clean with symmetry. They loved little pops of color and we selected small square jewels that are faceted to match the red in the center. As a nod to their faith, I painted on the inner border the motif of the fish that symbolized Christianity in ancient times. It is a subtle reminder to them of what is important and that is what makes custom art so special.
