Watch a Custom Stained Glass Commission Come to Life
I’m thrilled to share that I’ve finally completed the video project I began over a year ago! I had applied for an artist support grant from the state of North Carolina to capture behind-the-scenes footage of the process of making stained glass windows. My original plan was to create a few short videos highlighting different stages of the work—but then, almost immediately after receiving the grant, I received a commission to create seven stained glass cabinet door pieces for a client in Lenoir, NC.
I asked if she would be willing to let me document the process from start to finish, including footage in my studio as I worked on the pieces and in her home as we collaborated on designs, selected glass, and installed the finished pieces. She graciously agreed—and even shared her thoughts on the experience of commissioning a custom piece. Those moments quickly became some of my favorite parts of the video, because they capture the project from her perspective.
The final video ended up over ten minutes long—almost a short film! I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It offers a glimpse not only into the complexity and care that goes into creating a custom glass project, but also into the experience of commissioning artwork and watching it come to life.
