I named my business Paradise Custom Glass because I liked the idea that everyone has their own vision of paradise and I could help them depict that with stained glass. A client asked me if I could create an underwater scene featuring a mermaid for his wife who loves mermaids. They wanted some sea life in the image as well-- a few fish, a seahorse whose tail will be wrapped around some tall leaves and some bubbles floating up. I painted and fired those pieces first and am now working on the construction of the window. It's almost 5 feet wide and this construction method requires that I nail it onto a board to fit the glass pieces and zinc came together tightly. In order to take this photo, I was up on a ladder with the camera backed up to the ceiling! The board, of course, doesn't allow light through so you can't see how the mermaid's tail is a mix of reds, ambers, blues and greens. But when it's installed over her soaker tub, I hope her vision of paradise is made just a bit more vivid as the sunlight shines through this window.
