Shortly after I finished the windows that I blogged about on July 24, I received a commission for these sidelights.  Sidelights are the windows that are alongside a door and are a perfect place for stained glass.  Often having clear glass next to their front door leaves homeowners feeling exposed.   Installing custom stained glass windows allows the exposure to be reduced and gives them the opportunity to express their style in a prominent location.  When we met to develop these window designs, I was thinking of the Victorian-style sidelight windows I had recently completed but quickly understood that these would be remarkably different.  They wanted a modern style with lots of color, texture and pattern.   After a few tweaks to the line drawings, before selecting the glass, they were concerned that the windows still weren't interesting enough.  But once they saw the background glass (the swirly white & purple) they began to get excited.  I will be installing them this weekend and I think they will feel right away that they are perfect for their space and their spirit.
