business card holder (turtle).jpg

Three years ago, Leo's Restaurant in Grand Rapids, MI hosted my piece, "Transformations," for ArtPrize, an international art contest.  ArtPrize has artists post images and a description of their work online, then local businesses select which artwork they would like to display.  Leo's, a lovely seafood restaurant, chose my piece which consisted of 75 hanging glass butterflies that I installed in their entryway.  After the event, Leo commissioned me to make a similar piece but with glass fish that would hang from their ceiling.  They were a pleasure to work with-- giving me a few ideas of fish they wanted and leaving the rest up to me.  When they received the package in the mail, they said it felt like Christmas, unwrapping all their pretty glass presents.  About a month ago, they reached out to me again and said they wanted some business card holders and wondered if I'd make some.  They suggested I make a turtle and a shell but again left the rest up to me.  This turtle is fused onto the front of the box and has dichroic glass pieces on his back for extra sparkle.  The blue bevels on the side shimmer like water.  The package  should arrive today and I hope they enjoy opening it up as much as they did with the fish and that these beachy scenes help warm their chilly Michigan day!
