One thing I really enjoy when I'm looking at artwork is learning the story behind the piece.  It's wonderful to see something beautiful but when I learn what inspired it, I have a new appreciation for the artwork as well as the artist.  My co-curator at Transformations Gallery, Judy Weinberg, and I were talking about this and decided it would be really fun to create a show where we asked the artists to share about a woman who inspired them and submit a piece of art that goes along with that.  We narrowed the focus to inspirational women since the Borough Improvement League (BIL) is a women's organization and we wanted to honor the place strong women have had in history.   We just extended the submission deadline since we were behind getting the show information out and we can't wait to see what comes in-- so far, it's very inspiring!  If you are an artist or know someone who is, ask them if any women have inspired them and if they'd like to share about it.  We'd love to see their work and hear their story.
