Lately I have received a number of commissions for custom jewelry boxes.  Often they are given as a surprise and they are filled with meaning for both the giver and receiver.  For this one, my client wanted to give it to her mom for her birthday.  Her grandmother (her mom's mom) had passed and her mom felt that butterflies were a symbol of her.  She gave me artistic freedom but asked for it to be colorful, to incorporate a butterfly, and to have a photograph of her grandmother inside. When I learned her mom's favorite flower was the bird of paradise, I decided to use that for the top and to have the butterfly perched on the flower.  She sent me this photo of her mom opening this very special gift-- my client's beautiful daughter is looking on.  I think the picture says it all!
