Next Friday, June 5, Metuchen will kick off the 8th annual Junebug Artfest. I have been busy getting ready-- you can find me at my table in front of Metuchen Travel (428 Main St.) June 5, 12, & 26. This is the second year that there will also be the "window galleries" which matches artists with stores who host their work in a window that faces Main St. I have the good fortune of showing my work in the 2 big, beautiful windows of Buddha's Loft (401 Main St.). After visiting the salon, I knew I wanted to create an installation with butterflies to represent the transformation to beautiful that many hope to achieve when they come in. Inspiration came to me at the YMCA, watching people look at themselves in the mirror while they lifted weights. I thought about the work so many of us put into trying to make the image in the mirror match who we want to be. The photo above is a sneak peak of the piece in progress-- I will be installing it on Monday, June 1. If you look closely, you can see one of the butterflies was made out of mirrored glass. He's the one that all the other butterflies are looking at-- are they actually trying to catch a glimpse of themselves? There will be a contest with an app so you can vote for which display you like the most. I hope you do that and I hope you come down to Main St., meet the artists, listen to some music & enjoy the beginning of Summer 2015.
