"This Moment"
How are you feeling in this moment?
That's the question at the heart of a pop-up art show coming to Morganton in July. When I realized I'd be moving my studio from downtown to Lake James just as the country marks the 250th anniversary of its "founding," it felt like more than coincidence. It felt like serendipity.
Indivisible Burke NC — a nonpartisan, nonviolent, grassroots organization committed to real democracy, of, by, and for all people — a group that I've been involved with since its inception just over a year ago, is sponsoring the show. We've planned a full month of art and community events in the heart of downtown Morganton. We put out our Call to Artists and we're genuinely curious to see where this leads.
We aren't asking for any particular political perspective. We're just asking artists and community members to answer that question honestly, in whatever way feels true to them. Maybe things are going well for you. Maybe you're concerned for your friends, families, and neighbors. Maybe you're holding a lot of feelings at once. All of that belongs here.
If you're an artist, we'd love to have you respond to the call and help us start the conversation. Follow the link to our homepage for more information about how to enter your artwork into the show. If you just want to show up and be together — there's salsa dancing, art making, poetry, tie-dye, a party band, and many more fun events planned throughout the month.
All of it is free and open to everyone. We believe art has a way of unlocking something in us — connections, conversations, maybe even a little hope. Come find out. We'd love to see you there.
