"This Moment" and the next one
Paradise Custom Glass is gearing up for our move! My stained glass studio is relocating from W. Union St. to a new space at Lake James — a project that has been in the works for quite a while. I previously shared videos of the studio under construction (March 18) and the beautiful epoxy floors being poured (May 8). Since the new studio area is now finished enough to move my stuff into, I've been in a packing frenzy to get my glass and equipment wrangled— after 3 giant rolls of bubble wrap, 4 large wooden crates, and an untold number of cardboard boxes, I'm ready to go!
It’s hard to believe we have lived and worked in this historic building in the heart of downtown Morganton for five years — and yet, in some ways, it feels like we just arrived. We’ve enjoyed participating in Art Crawls, attending TGIF concerts, walking to restaurants and breweries, and getting to know the community. We are grateful for all the opportunities we’ve had downtown but our dream was always to live and work at Lake James and we are finally making that happen.
Because we are relocating, the timing worked out perfectly to host an Art Show called “This Moment,” sponsored by Indivisible Burke NC, which opens on the Fourth of July. This show started as my little idea and has blossomed into so many fun components. We have visual art, poetry, music, a book, a film, salsa dancing, a band, interactive art creation, food, beverages, and, most importantly, conversation. In the meantime, I will be unpacking those crates and boxes and getting Paradise Glass’s new Lake James studio organized. I’m hoping to welcome visitors with an open studio event in early fall. If you want to follow along as the new space comes together, Instagram is where I post most frequently. And I’m always a phone call or email away to discuss commissions. I’ll be happy to put down the bubble wrap to talk with you!
